Average House Sizes Around the World

by admin on January 30, 2012

Just how much bigger are houses in the US versus the rest of the world? The BBC created a graph demonstrating just how big the average American house really is compared to the rest of the world.

USA: 2,300 sf
Australia: 2,217 sf
Denmark: 1,475 sf
France: 1,216 sf
Spain: 1,044 sf
Ireland: 947 sf
UK: 818 sf

Average World House Size

This shows that small really is relative. A small house in the US, such as the one I live in (750 sf) is really just close to the norm in the UK If you want cheaper living and the ability to enjoy your space perhaps you should move to the UK for a few years, then move back to America, I’m sure your appreciation for small living will grow!
